Belkis Plata teaches Girl Scouts civics

From Belkis:

“6 years ago today, on Election Day, my dad passed away I couldn’t think of any better way to honor him today then to help some of the cutest and smartest Girl Scouts earn their civics badge!

“Children are constantly observing the world around them, taking in information, and trying to make sense of what they observe and experience. This includes the work of adults and the occupations that they observe adults doing. They are forming ideas about who can and can’t have certain jobs based on identity characteristics such as gender, race and/or ethnicity.

“Building a more equitable society means educating and empowering girls to be actively involved in civics and the political process, and the sooner, the better!”
