Sam D. Smart joins Plata Schott Law as a Litigation Attorney

Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, Sam D. Smart has carved a niche for herself in the legal landscape of Florida. Sam began her undergraduate degree at Boston University, where she not only pursued her academic ambitions but also embraced the spirited role of Rhett, the university's mascot, showcasing her early inclination towards leadership and teamwork.

Graduating in 2009, Sam transitioned to the Florida Coastal School of Law, a period marked by her intense involvement in the trial team. As a executive board member, she honed her litigation skills, competing in numerous competitions and contributing significantly to the team's success. Her commitment to legal practice was further evidenced by her role as a Certified Legal Intern at the Public Defender's Office.

Upon earning her J.D., Sam embarked on a noteworthy career at the Public Defender's Office, quickly ascending to the role of Assistant Public Defender. Distinguished as the youngest attorney in this position, she handled a broad spectrum of cases, from minor misdemeanors to severe felonies. Her prowess in criminal defense, particularly in DUI defense, administrative hearings, and appeals, underscored her dedication to justice and her clients' rights. Her rapid promotion to the felony division and her mentorship of new attorneys highlight her professional growth and her commitment to sharing her knowledge with peers.

Sam transitioned into civil litigation, where she defended clients in auto liability, premises liability, wrongful death, negligent security, trucking, and general liability defense for more than six years.

She joins Plata Schott Law as the firm’s newest Litigation Attorney. In her current role at Plata Schott Law, Sam brings her vast experience in personal injury litigation to the forefront, now representing plaintiff clients with the same vigor and dedication she's known for. Her versatility and depth of experience in both criminal and civil litigation enable her to offer comprehensive and adept legal representation.
